no man is an island/ The necessary enemy

No Man is an Island

Question: Do you think death (of a loved one, or an close encounter with death) makes one a stronger 'believer' in their religion?

Themes:

death
christianity
faith
heaven
everything on earth is interconnected to oneanother.

Idea for research:
Finding out how people in different cultures mourn their dead and what their beliefs are. What do they use (like the tolling of bells) to declare that someone has died?
(eg. what would people in Zimbabwe do comapred to people in Ireland when one of their own dies?)

Idea for presentation:
Examples (a chart) of what people do in differnt cultures in order to stay 'eternal'
(eg. mummification in egypt) or how different religions related to Christianity (catholisism, anglican etc.) respond or deal with death.

The Necessary Enemy

Question: The author was told to 'control' her feelings" when she got angry.
Do you think that this might have resulted in hatred being bottled up inside the author, and later being released during her marital life? Should anger be bottled up, or released?

Themes:

Hatred
Married life
Romance is a fairytale
Difficulties of commitment
love is learned

Idea for research:
As the author was married in her teenage years, you could do research on how long a 'teen' marriage lasts.
Look at celebrities, college students and compare the reasons why people married young in the 1800s, with the reasons thay get married now.
(eg. the life expectancy in the 1800s wasn't very long, so people had to get married young).

Idea for presentation:
Make a recipe containing all the ingredients of a 'perfect' marriage that'll last forever.
